DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box
for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O
Box 2754 , zip 34973.
FARM CITY WEEK: Our annual Farm-City
Week BBQ will again be held on Nov 20 at the KOA. Each member has tickets to
sell, so bring a guest. Lunch will begin at 11:30 AM. Clayton has planned
another wonderful BBQ.
ROTARY CLUB FELLOWSHIP EVENING: The
Kiwanis Club members and spouses have been invited to attend the Okeechobee
Rotary Club Fellowship Evening on Tues, Nov 25, at Gilbert's Chevrolet at 5:30
PM.
SANTA IN THE PARK: Head Santa Marcos
has scheduled the dates for Santa to visit Okeechobee. The dates are Dec 13
(after parade), Dec 17-20 & 22-23 from 6-8 PM. Please plan to be an "Elf" on one
of these dates.
EYDC CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Christmas
Party for the Eckerd Intensive Half Way House will be on Dec 9. This is a Tues
rather than a Thurs, so your baked goods will need to be dropped off at
Dowling's work. Plan to attend with us and you will be blessed by the attitude
of the boys you meet. Details will be announced at future meetings.
AWARDS DAY: Since our installation
banquet was held in conjunction with the Governors Visit, our club awards were presented at the regular meeting on Oct 9.
Outgoing Pres Frank Irby was given a crown and proclaimed "King of Kiwanis" and
incoming Pres was named "Prince" by Past Pres Marcos. Frank also recognized
members who had given outstanding service to the club including: Don Kelly, Greg
Thogersen, Jim Vensel and Dowling Watford.
BABY SHOWER: Our baby shower for the Pregnancy Center
was
held on Oct 16. Thanks to your outstanding support, a large number of baby
items, including diapers, diaper bags, blankets, sleepers, baby powder, shampoo,
and $55 in fine money was presented to Lisa Lumpkin, the Ex Director, and Cindy
Doyle, Center Director. The Center has served over 100 women so far this year.
Thanks to Robbie
Sumner for heading up this project and for the cup cakes, decorations and
baby word scramble game.
BLOOD DRIVE: The "Okeechobee
Blood Roundup" will be held on Nov 14&15 at the First United Methodist
Church. This is the third year for the Roundup and the goal
this year is 450 units. Please sign up for the Kiwanis team, as cash prizes will
be awarded to the organization with the most donors.

International Magazine has introduced a monthly email update called the Kiwanis
International Update e-zine. To subscribe to this free service, log onto

CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to
Dr Pat Cooper for receiving the 2008 Indian River State College Distinguished
Alumni Award. Toni Doyle's article on the National Day of the Cowboy was
published in the "Main Street Minute" printed by the Florida Main Street.
WORDS OF WISDOM: New Stock Market

and Poor- Your life in a nutshell; Stock Analyst- the idiot who just downgraded

word no longer in use.
RECOVERING: Toni Doyle has been
hospitalized with pleurisy and pneumonia. Bruce Simpson is
scheduled for another knee surgery on Nov 11. Bob Owens (Kelly's husband)
continues to recuperate. Best wishes to all for
a full and speedy
recovery!
