DEFINING STATEMENT: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O Box 2754 ,  zip 34973.

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING: Our Souper Bowl of Caring project was again a great success.  On Jan 31, we presented over 400 pounds of canned and dry goods and over $150 to the Food Bank at the Presbyterian Church. Mrs Joyce Smith accepted the donation and updated the Club on the many individuals and families that that the Food Bank serves. A special thank you to everyone who contributed food or money to this project and to Marcos Montes De Oca for coordinating the project.  

MARGE BLAIR MATH MINI GRANTS: The Okeechobee Educational Foundation  presented the Marge Blair Math Mini Grants at an awards ceremony on Jan 28 at the School Board offices. Central Elementary teachers, Janelle Johns and Erlinda Vaughn each received a $500 mini grant to enhance math education in their classrooms. 

YOUTH ART TENT: The Board approved $250.00 to sponsor the youth art tent at the Main Street Art Festival on Feb 22-23.

EASTER PANCAKE BREAKFAST: The annual Pancake Breakfast will be on Easter Sunday, Mar 23, at the Freshman Campus cafeteria. See Greg Thogersen for your tickets and be sure to mark your calendar to help set up on Sat or serve on Sun.

SPONSORED YOUTH: The Board is concerned that we are not adequately supporting our Builders and Key Clubs that we sponsor. If you would like to help by serving as a contact person for one of the clubs, please contact Pres Frank Irby to volunteer.

NEW MEMBER: J D Mixon has been approved as our first new member of 2008. Welcome J D!

CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Key Club President, Rachael Holt, for being selected as Miss Speckled Perch.

IN THE NEWS: An article in the Okeechobee News featured the Yearling Middle School Builders Club Christmas caroling and Christmas story reading at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility.
