DEFINING STATEMENT: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O Box 2754 ,  zip 34973.

BUILDER'S CLUBS COOK-OUT:  Our annual cook out for the Yearling Middle School and Osceola Middle School Builder's Clubs was held on May 15 at the Sports Complex. In addition to the Builder's Clubs, we had the Key Club members from the Freshman Campus and Okeechobee High School.  Dowling Watford welcomed the members and introduced the officers of each club, Dr Pat Cooper encouraged the young people to stay involved in service, and each sponsor was presented a candle/flower gift. An inter-club from Jensen Beach also attended with Lt-Gov Elect Bill Hansen. A special thanks to Noel Stephen for cooking the delicious hot dogs and hamburgers and Jay Zeller for helping with the chips and snacks. ( See pictures in Photo Gallery).

NEW MEETING LOCATION: The Club voted to move the meeting location to the American Legion Hall (behind City Hall). The American Legion serves sandwiches, salads and wings and has a private meeting room. 

SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT: The Dick Blair Memorial Scholarships were presented on May 20 at the OHS Scholarship Night. Four, $1,000 scholarships in memory of Dick Blair were presented to: Jesse Bryant (son of member Jerry Bryant and class co-valedictorian); Matthew Richey (Key Club President); Erica Zinski and Rina Boswell. Over $2.8 million in scholarships were presented, with $670,000 coming from the local community.   

NEW ENDEAVOR REWARD DAY: The Club supported the New Endeavor School Positive Behavior Support Reward Day on Jun 2 by providing and cooking the hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks for approximately 120 students and 20 staff. The Reward Day is to give those students who have shown positive behavior an incentive and featured a DJ and a dunk tank with several teachers getting dunked. Thanks to Noel Stephen and County Commissioner Noel Chandler for cooking and Jim Vensel, Dowling Watford, and Jay Zeller for helping set up and serve.   

GRAD NIGHT: The annual Grad Night party co-sponsored by our Club was held after graduation on Jun 5. It was again a huge hit with the students but with a slightly smaller attendance this year.

GENE O'NEILL BENEFIT: The Retirement Party/ Benefit for Gene O'Neill  held on Fri, Jun 13, at KOA was a huge success with approximately 225 people attending and about $13,000 raised to help Gene and Bobi. Thank you to everyone who helped organize, set up, donated items, attended, and bid on auction items to make the evening so successful.  

REAL LIFE CHILDREN'S RANCH SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: Our annual school supply drive for RLCR will begin on Jul 17 and the supplies will be presented on Aug 7. All school supplies are needed: back packs, paper, pencils, crayons, spiral notebooks (single, 5 subject), hard cover 3 ring binders (.5, 1 & 1.5 in), TI-34 and regular calculators, mechanical pencils, 3-ring pencil pouches and purse size Kleenix. Cash donations are also welecome.

GOVERNOR'S VISIT: We have been selected to host the Governor's Visit to Division 16. The visit will also be the installation banquet for our club officers and any other club in Division 16 that would like to have the Governor install their officers. It will be held on Oct 3,  at the American Legion with Golden Corral catering. Maureen Burroughs will coordinate this event.

RECOVERING: Bruce Simpson is scheduled for surgery on Jul 2 to re-install his knee. Gene and Bobi O'Neill were involved in a rollover accident on Jun 23. Gene suffered a broken ankle and Bobi was transferred to Lawnwood for observation. Dee Dee Cates (Steve's wife) was hospitalized with a heart issue. Sheryll Thogersen (Greg's wife) is recovering from surgery. Bennett Yeilding and Mark Reynolds were in and out of the hospital. Bob Owens (Kelly's husband) has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatments. Best wishes to all for a full and speedy recovery!

CONDOLENCES: Our sincere sympathy to Mark Reynolds on the death of his sister, and to Clayton Williams on the passing of his sister. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.
