DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box
for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O
Box 2754 , zip 34973.
RADIO AUCTION: Our annual Radio
Auction is scheduled for Dec 8 on WOKC. Please contact businesses to get
donations to auction. Remember, do not pick up the item, the winning bidder gets
a certificate to take to the merchant to pick the item up there. The merchant
gets the benefit of having the winner come into his store. This is one of our
major fundraisers. so please get as many donations as possible. The auction will
be held at Riverside Bank this year so we will have more phone lines to work
with.
INSTALLATION BANQUET: The
Installation Banquet for our 2007-2008 officers and directors was held at
KOA on Oct 18. Past Lt-Gov Cindy Miller installed the officers. A memorial table
was set up in memory of Dick Blair and included several of his Kiwanis Awards,
his Life Member Badge, and other memorabilia. His daughter, Marge Merrill made
some very interesting and humorous comments regarding her father. Pres Frank
Irby presented thank you awards and gifts to: Jay Zeller for program chair; Paul
Mitchell for Terrific Kids; Jim Vensel for Radio Auction; Greg Thogersen for
Pancake Breakfast; and Dowling Watford received the "Spark Plug" (literally a
spark plug) Award. A special thanks to Maureen Burroughs for coordinating the
event, Wendy Woodman for the KOA facilties and Golden Corral for catering.
FARM-CITY BBQ: Clayton Williams is
once again heading up the Farm-City BBQ. The date is Nov 15 at KOA. The special
guest speaker will be Rep Tim Mahoney. Lunch will begin at 11:30 AM. Bring a
guest.
SYMPATHY: Our sincere sympathy to
the Dick Blair family on his recent death. Dick was a Life Member of our Club
and was one of our most faithful and dedicated members. A memorial service will
be held on Nov 12, 7:00 PM at Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. A dinner will be
held from 5:30-6:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church. All Kiwanians and
their spouses are invited. Dick will be really
missed by our Club.
RECOVERING: Bruce Simpson is
recovering from double knee replacement surgery and is doing much better and has
returned to our meetings;
Gene O'Neill continues to recover from a problem related to his cancer. Please keep these members
in your thoughts and prayers.
UPCOMING EVENTS: December is a busy
month for our Club with a lot happening. On Dec 1 we will decorate Bandstand for
Santa in the Park which will begin after the Christmas Parade on Dec 8. Dec 8 is
also date for Radio Auction and Dec 13 will be EYDC Christmas Party.
