DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box
for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O
Box 2754 , zip 34973.
REAL LIFE CHILDREN'S RANCH SCHOOL
SUPPLY DRIVE: Our annual school supply drive for RLCR will end on Aug 9 when the
supplies are presented to RLCR. All school supplies are needed (paper,
pens, pencils, glue, folders, spiral notebooks, markers, rulers, scientific
calculators-TI-34, 1' 3 ring binders, book bags, etc) or CASH would also be
welcome.
DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING: The final
DCM of the year and final DCM for Lt Gov Cindy Miller will be held on July 18 at
Fully Involved Farms in Ft Pierce at 6:00 PM with a potluck dinner.
CLUB ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: Our
36th anniversary was celebrated on Jun 28. We had a large crowd and had to bring
in extra tables and chairs. "Old members" Red Larson and Phil Berger related
interesting facts about the Club's history, "new members" Wendy Woodman
and Jenny Pung told why they joined the Club, and Dick Blair spoke on how he
became a Kiwanian and what the Club has meant to him. Thanks to Greg Thogerson
for coordinating the event and furnishing a cake.
RIF: Treasurer Jeff Sumner presented
our annual donation of $1,000 for Reading is Fundamental to Mary Hurley of the
School Board at our Jun 28th meeting. RIF provides three books a year to each
elementary student. Our Club has participated in RIF for many years.
CONGRATULATIONS: Our Key Club Pres,
Rachel Holt, was awarded a scholarship to FSU during her participation in the
Girl's State program sponsored by the American Legion. Congratulations Rachel!
AWARDS: At our 36th anniversary
meeting, Wendy Woodman presented 1/2 of the famous blank plaque to Maureen
Burroughs for all the work she does in the Club and community. Congratulations
to Maureen on such an honor!
BOARD ACTIONS: At the July Board of
Directors meeting the following actions were taken: a $3.00 per member donation
will be made to the International Foundation; $500 will be give to our Lt Gov
Cindy Miller for her expenses during the year; Elvie Posey was approved as a new
member; the Radio Auction and ways to improve it were discussed and Jim Vensel
will again chair; and the purchase of banners for events was discussed.
OFFICERS: The officers for 2007-2008
are: Pres- Frank Irby; VP- Jim Vensel; Sec- Corey Crum; Treas- Jeff Sumner, and
Directors: Greg Thogerson, Paul Mitchell, Devon Maxwell, Bennett Yeilding, Brad
Stark, Wendy Woodman and alternates Robi Sumner and Kelly Owens. Thanks to the
outgoing officers and directors for their service and to the incoming officers
for their willingness to serve!
NEW MEMBER: Elvie Posey has joined
the club. Elvie is one of our Okeechobee County Commissioners. Welcome Elvie!
