PAST ISSUES:
Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the
Newsletter page.
DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
BLOOD DRIVE: The community Blood
Drive was a huge success and the goal of 400 pints was achieved! Joan Dyer,
Editor of the Okeechobee Times, was the driving force behind the Drive and
attend our meeting to thank the Club for its participation. Although we did not
win the contest for the club with the most donations, we did beat Rotary!
Congratulations to Mrs. Dyer and all those who were involved in this very
worthwhile cause.
INSTALLATION BANQUET: Our annual
Installation Banquet/Governor's Visit was a big success and a very nice affair.
The Kiwanis Governor, Phil Yorston, performed our
officer installation along with several other clubs in Division 16. The Governor
was presented some "wonderful" gifts from our Club, including a Hot Air Kit and
Kiwanis Motivator 2x4. Entertainment was provided by Lt Gov Cindy Miller and her
line dancers. A special thank you to Maureen Burroughs for coordinating the
event and Wendy Woodman for providing KOA for us.
AWARDS: Since our Installation
Banquet will be shared with other Clubs in the Division, we will not present
awards at the Banquet. Awards will be presented at the regular meeting on Oct
12.
NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box
for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O
Box 2754 , zip 34973.
MAIN STREET FALL FESTIVAL: The Board
agreed to participate in the Fall Festival in the park sponsored by Main Street.
This is a safe alternative to Halloween Trick-or-Treating. We will ask members
to bring in bags of individually wrapped candy to donate to Main Street. Jim
Vensel is coordinating this project.
FESTIVAL OF BANDS: The Board agreed
to again provide help with the Festival of Bands at OHS on Oct 28. We will help
with ticket sales again this year. Jim Vensel has agreed to help organize. Mark
your calendar!
DUES: The Club and the Board voted
to raise the dues to $130 annually. This was necessary to cover our dues to
International, District, and other expenses paid out of the General Account
(speaker meals, etc). We have been subsidizing the General Fund with the fine
money which has traditionally been used for the President to donate to a local
charity or event.
CONGRATULATIONS: Maureen Burroughs
has been honored by the ABWA as a "Distinguished Woman of Okeechobee".
Congratulations Maureen!
NEW MEMBER: Monica Jones with
Riverside Bank has transferred her membership to our club. Welcome Monica!
