MARCH
2006
PAST ISSUES:
Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the
Newsletter page.
EASTER PANCAKE BREAKFAST:
Our annual Easter Pancake Breakfast will again be chaired by Greg Thorgerson and
will be held on Apr 16. Since Teen Town was damaged by the hurricanes and
can not be used, an alternate location has been chosen. The Freshman Campus
cafeteria will be the new location. The Board also approved an increase in the
ticket price and ads will be sold on the placemats to generate additional
income. SELL, SELL, SELL those tickets!
KEY CLUB NEWS: Our two Key Clubs
(Okeechobee High School & Freshman Campus) have been very active and were
featured in recent newspaper articles. The OHS Key Club had a picture of the
Club delivering Valentines to the residents of Okeechobee Health Care Center.
The Freshman Campus Key Club article was on their goal of raising $1,000 for the
March of Dimes. They are collecting pledges for Walk America and are
sponsoring a "Kiss Bubba" Contest. Bubba is the Brahma Bull that is
the OHS FFA mascot. The sponsor for the OHS Key Club is Mark Ward and Freshman
Key Club sponsor is Tracy Sills.
MARGE BLAIR MATH MINI GRANTS: The
Math Mini Grants in memory of Marge Blair will be presented on Mar 29 at 4:00pm
in the School District board room. The Grants are administered by the Okeechobee
Educational Foundation.
DUES: The Board is considering going
to an annual billing for the dues collection. This would help us better
coordinate with our Kiwanis International billing cycle and several members have
requested this and are currently paying yearly.
KIWANIS HONORS: Don Kelly
and Darrell Enfinger were presented with Florida Foundation recognition plaques
for their outstanding service to our Club. The plaques were presented by Lt Gov
Nick Taylor and Dr Joyce Taylor (FL Foundation Trustee) and represent a $100 donation to the
Florida Foundation in their honor. Congratulations to Don and Darrell and thanks
for all they do for our Club.
KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION:
The Kiwanis International Foundation will be sponsoring a "Skip A
Meal" program the last week of April to benefit the Kiwanis Children's
Fund. See next month's newsletter for details.
RECOVERING: Bennett Yeilding
continues to recover from his broken heel and bout with shingles. Gene O'Neill
