APRIL 2006
PAST ISSUES: Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the Newsletter page.
EASTER PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Our annual Easter Pancake Breakfast will again be chaired by Greg Thorgerson and will be held on Apr 16. Since Teen Town was damaged by the hurricanes and can not be used, an alternate location has been chosen. The Freshman Campus cafeteria will be the new location. Set up will take place on Fri, Apr 14 and everyone needs to be at the cafeteria at 5:00 AM on Sunday to begin getting ready to serve at 7:00. UPDATE: The Breakfast was a HUGE success with about 450 people served (at both locations) and almost $6,000 collected so far. The new location worked great, with everyone commenting on how smoothly everything went. A special thanks to: Greg Thorgerson for chairing, Darrell Enfinger for set up and organization, Don Kelly for set up and coffee and pancake batter mixing, Noel Stephen (and crew) for clean up, Ray Arrants for ordering supplies, Red Larson for
providing the sausage, Joe Hazellief for providing orange juice, Al Stokes for acting as Maitre'D, the Freshman Campus staff for allowing us to use the cafeteria, Cheri Watford and Richard Kersey for handling the Methodist Church breakfast, and everyone who helped in any way!
MARGE BLAIR MATH MINI GRANTS: The Math Mini Grants in memory of Marge Blair were presented on Mar 29 at the School District board room. The Grants are administered by the Okeechobee Educational Foundation and are $500 each. Dick Blair was present acknowledge winners and say a few words about Marge.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER: As a part of our support of Spiritual Aims, our club will assist with the National Day of Prayer sponsored by the Ministerial Association at noon on May 4 at the Courthouse. We will provide box lunches for those who attend
SPECIAL GUEST: We were honored by a visit to the club by Congressman Mark Foley on Mar 30. We presented Rep Foley with a special name badge (identifying him as the Congressman, not Ann Decker) and he updated the Club on events in Washington.
NEW MEMBER: We are pleased to welcome Benny Vaughn as a new member. Benny was sponsored by Jim Vensel. Welcome!
LIFE MEMBERS: Treas. Frank Irby reported to the Board that Kiwanis International is charging approximately $20 per year for Life Members who pay no dues. The Board voted to absorb this amount and to continue the no dues policy for Life Members.
RECOVERING: Bennett Yeilding and Gene O'Neill are recovering nicely and have been in attendance at recent meetings. Glad to have you back!
CONDOLENCES: Our sincere sympathy to Mrs Phyliss Koff (Norman's wife) on the passing of her Mother and the family of Rene Berry (former member) on his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
