       SEPT 2006

PAST ISSUES: Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the Newsletter page.

2006-2007 OFFICERS: Officers for the new Kiwanis year beginning Oct 1, are: Frank Irby-Pres; Jim Vensel-VP; Wendy Woodman-Sec; Jeff Sumner-Treas; Marcos Montes De Oca-Past Pres; and Bennett Yeilding and Paul Mitchell-Directors. Thanks to all for their willingness to serve.

BLOOD DRIVE: Our club has been challenged by the Rotary Club to participate in the community wide blood drive on Sept 15-16. The goal is to have 400 pints of blood donated, which would be a record for a community of our size. The drive will be held in the parking lot behind First United Methodist Church.  Please sign up for this important event. See Bennett Yeilding for details.

INSTALLATION BANQUET: Our club has been given the honor to have in-coming Kiwanis Governor Phil Yorston perform our officer installation. Several other clubs in Division 16 will join with us for this important event on Sept 29 at KOA. The theme will be a western one and western attire or business casual will be appropriate. Lt Gov Cindy Miller has recruited line dancers to provide entertainment during the Social Hour which will begin at 6:30 PM. The meeting will begin at 7:30 and dinner menu will be roast beef and chicken, potatoes, and vegetable. Members will be responsible for bringing their favorite dessert to share as has been our custom. Please make every effort to attend as this is a very special honor to have the Governor attend!

AWARDS: Since our Installation Banquet will be shared with other Clubs in the Division, we will not present awards at the Banquet. Awards will be presented at the regular meeting on Oct 12.

SPONSORED YOUTH: Our Key and Builder's Clubs are all covered with school and Kiwanis sponsors. Two of our members have volunteered to serve with each Club and we plan to have Gov Phil present the charter to the Key Club at the Freshman Campus at the Installation Banquet.

BUILDER'S CLUB COOK-OUT: POSTPONED! A cook-out for our Builder's Clubs has tentatively been set for Oct 5, noon, at the Sports Complex. This will be a beginning of the year "kick off" for the Clubs. POSTPONED!

NEW MEMBER: Gary Kirsch (Lonnie's husband) has joined the Club. Gary is Principal at New Endeavor High School and was sponsored by Kelly Owens. Welcome Gary!
