JAN, 2005
PAST ISSUES:
Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the
Newsletter page.
MEETING LOCATION: The Village Square
received major roof damage during Hurricane Jeanne, so we are meeting at Fat
Boys until repairs are made to Village Square (at least thru Jan). Hopefully the
Village Square will reopen in Feb.
SANTA IN THE PARK: Our "Head
Santa" (AKA Ray Worley) reports that Santa was again very successful.
A special thanks to Marcos and Jeff for playing "substitute Santa" and
all the "Elves" for their help. Clean up will be Jan 8 and help will
be needed to return the sleigh to the North Pole (the storage shed).
EYDC CHRISTMAS PARTY: Our
annual Christmas party for one of the cottages at EYDC went very well and was
appreciated by the boys of Koger Cottage. Chairman Dowling Watford would like to
thank everyone who helped out by bring cookies/brownies, all those who attended,
Jean Kearney for the stuffed animals (they are a big hit with the boys), Rev.
Jim Dawson (Youth/Assistant Pastor First United Methodist Church) for presenting
the program and, of course, Santa.
MATH MINI-GRANT: The Marge
Blair Math Mini Grants were presented on Dec 13 and Dick Blair was on hand for
the ceremony (see picture in photos) as well as Pres Marcos and Donna Enrico
(also a member of the Okeechobee Educational Foundation).
KIWANIS 90TH ANNIVERSARY: Kiwanis
International will celebrate its 90th anniversary on Jan 21. Kiwanis was founded
in Detroit on Jan 21, 1915. Our club will have a special celebration at our
meeting on Jan 20 with an anniversary cake and a program featuring our club's
history by Red Larson, a charter member of our club.
BOBI O'NEILL FUNDRAISER:
Your Board voted to help sponsor a fund-raiser for Bobi O'Neill. We will join
forces with the Clerk's office, Tax Collectors office, Grace Brethern Church and
others to help with Bobi and Gene's expenses during Bobi's illness. A B-B-Q and
auction are planned for Feb 19 at the Ag Center. If you would like to help or
donate any item for the auction, it would be greatly appreciated. The next
meeting of the group will be on Jan 12 at Fat Boy's at noon.
BABY SHOWER: The Club will
sponsor a baby shower for the Pregnancy Resourse Center on Feb 10. Please bring
items that any new parent would need for their baby (diapers, blankets,
clothing, high chair, etc).
RECOVERING: Bobi O'Neill is
progressing and is now able to get up and walk. The current plan is for Bobi to
return from Pittsburgh in mid Jan and continue physical therapy until she is
strong enough for the transplants. Our best wishes for continued progress! Neil Gunsalus (AKA
Pastor Wonderful) had a heart attack, fell, and broke his ankle. He had a triple
heart bypass and surgery on his ankle at JFK Hospital. He is currently in rehab
in West Palm Beach. Best wishes for a speedy
recovery! Bob Curley recently under went surgery to insert a port for kidney
dialysis which he will begin soon. Our best wishes for successful
treatments. Jim Burke continues his radiation and chemo treatments and is doing
very well. He sends his regards to the Club.
CONDOLENCES: Our sincere sympathy to
Ben Sims and Bruce Simpson, both of whom lost their fathers. Our thoughts and
prayers are with you both!
