NEWS LETTER NOVEMBER, 2004
PAST ISSUES:
Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the
Newsletter page.
INSTALLATION BANQUET: The Installation
Banquet was a huge success and was one of the nicest affairs we have had for
several years. Lt Gov John Mann installed the new directors and officers and
outgoing Pres Jeff Sumner presented certificates of appreciation to all
committee chairmen. Jeff also presented a Life Membership to Dowling Watford. A
new project was announced, the "Marge Blair Math Mini Grant" program
through the Okeechobee Educational Foundation. Three $500 mini grants will be
presented to elementary teachers for math projects in their classrooms. Dick
Blair was honored with a framed letter from the Foundation accepting the
donation. A special thanks to Maureen Burroughs, Sandie Frost and Wendy Woodman
for their wonderful work!
MEETING LOCATION: The Village Square
received major roof damage during Hurricane Jeanne, so we are meeting at Fat
Boys until repairs are made to Village Square.
FARM-CITY BBQ: Our annual Farm-City BBQ
is scheduled for Nov 18 at KOA. Clayton Williams is our chairman for this event
and it is always a very nice affair. Plan to attend and bring a guest.
RADIO AUCTION: Our annual radio
auction fundraiser will be held on Dec 4 on WOKC. Please begin to solicit
donations ($25.00 minimum retail value) for the auction.
FOOTBALL SWEEPSTAKES: The Kiwanis
Club of Vero-Nite had to cancel their Football Sweepstakes fundraiser. If you
would like a refund of your $10.00 email Connie Hall at cojack32968@msn.com.
Otherwise it will be considered a donation to their club (please consider that
option).
CONGRATULATIONS: Kermit Nichols
recently celebrated his 86th birthday. Happy Birthday!
CONDOLENCES: Our sincere
condolences to Laura Sims (Ben's wife) on the death of her brother.
RECOVERING: Bobi O'Neill was transferred back to Okeechobee
for a couple of weeks and has now been transferred to Pittsburgh for an intestine
transplant. Gene will travel up to be with her and plans to be gone for two
months. Our best wishes for a successful operation. Jim Burke had cancer
surgery and is recovering at home. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
