                                   JANUARY ,2010

PAST ISSUES: Past issues are available by clicking on Archives at the bottom of the Newsletter page.

DEFINING STATEMENT: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING: We will again participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring to collect food items for the  Food Bank at the Presbyterian Church. This project is sponsored by the NFL to tie in with the Super Bowl. Please bring canned goods, cereal, rice, mac and cheese, canned meats, etc, to present to the Food Bank on Feb 4.

RADIO AUCTION: The annual Radio Auction set a record even in the rough economy. We made approximately $6,000 this year! This compares with the normal profit of $2,500 to $3,000. A great job by Jenny and Brad getting everything put together and thanks to each member who got donations, the donor businesses, all the bidders,  the Key Club for assisting, and to Billy Dean and WOKC for the air time.

G4S CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Christmas Party for G4S Halfway House (former EYDC) was held on Tues, Dec 8. Our Club once again presented the young men with a gift bag with toiletries and had cookies and other "goodies".  Thanks to all the Kiwanians who attended, those who brought goodies, Jim Cole (winter visitor) for the Santa hats, and to Rev Jim Dawson for the program. The young men were very appreciative of the party and the gifts.

SANTA-IN-THE-PARK: Santa had another good year in the park and thanks the club for their work. The new picture system using the Kodak Easy Share camera and printers worked well and appears to be the correct answer. Head Elf Marcos plans to purchase four cameras and printers for future years.

SALVATION ARMY KETTLE CAMPAIGN: We manned the kettle at Walmart on Dec 9 from 9 AM to 8 PM. Our total amount raised for day was $552.39. Overall, the Salvation Army raised about $25,000 for the campaign. This is about $3,000 over last year. Thanks to all the bell ringers for your time!

MEMBERSHIP: According to the Club Monthly Report Card in the Dec/Jan issue of the "Florida Kiwanian", our club is the largest club in Division 16 with 61 members. The Stuart Club had been running right at or just above our membership level has dropped to 46 members to be the second largest club.

2010 SPEAKER SCHEDULE: The 2010 speaker schedule is posted on the website. Please check for your date and contact speaker chairman, Jay Zeller, with any questions.

IN THE NEWS:  Several of our members were included in article in the Winter issue of "Okeechobee The Magazine": Noel Stephen, Toni Doyle, Sherri Enfinger, Maureen Burroughs, Jim McCoin, Steve Cates, Clayton Williams, Kelly Owens, J D Mixon, Mary Chesley,  Frank Irby, and Dowling Watford.

WORDS OF WISDOM: Behind every successful man.....is a confused mother-in-law. A good woman is like a great horse-faithful but hard to lead. A man is not complete until he's married...then he's FINISHED.
