DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
RADIO AUCTION: The deadline for
items to appear in the Pennysaver ad is Nov 19, so get you auction items in by
then. Packages are coming together and individual items are needed also. So far
our big items are: four Miami Dolphin Club Seat tickets, Brady Axis deer hunt,
Quail Creek sporting shoot, and several golf packages. The auction
will be held on Dec 12,on WOKC.
BANDSTAND DEDICATION RESCHEDULED: The dedication
for the newly renovated bandstand has been rescheduled for Nov 19 at 5:30 PM.
Judge Bill Hendry will present a history of the bandstand, donors will be
recognized, and the Okeechobee High School Jazz Band will perform. Bring your
lawn chair and enjoy the evening.
FARM-CITY WEEK BBQ: Our annual
Farm-City week BBQ will be held on Nov 19, at KOA. This is always a great event
with a delicious lunch, informative displays by the FFA and 4H members, and an
interesting speaker. Jeff Sumner is chairing the event and has distributed
tickets. If you need more tickets or would like to volunteer to help, please
call Jeff.
SALVATION ARMY KETTLE CAMPAIGN: The
Board agreed to participate in the Salvation Army Kettle campaign by manning the
kettle as Bell Ringers for one day at Walmart. Our day will be Wednesday,
Dec 9 from 9 AM to 8 PM. We will need 5 or 6 members willing to ring for a two
hour shift. Please mark your calendar and sign up for a shift.
IN THE NEWS: Kelly Owens was honored
by the ABWA as the Educational Leadership recipient. J D Mixon and Darrell
Enfinger had their pictures in the Okeechobee News for their Kiwanis awards (Kiwanian
of the Year and Kiwanis Florida Foundation plaque), and Jim McCoin for his
donation to the club of the amount of the Installation Banquet meal for the
Project Account.
RECOVERING: Michelle Harper will
have neck surgery on Nov 17; Bennett Yeilding
continues to recover from foot
surgery; Kermit Nichols
is still struggling with back pain; Epi Juarez had minor surgery on his neck and Dee Dee Cates (Steve's wife) has
had serious cancer surgery and is in very serious condition in Tampa. Our prayers and sincere best wishes for a
complete recovery!
