DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
RADIO AUCTION: The annual Radio
Auction is set for Dec 12, on WOKC. The ad will run in the Dec 9th Pennysaver.
Items so far include: four Miami Dolphin Club Seat tickets, Brady Axis deer hunt,
Quail Creek sporting shoot, one day Cruise party package, and several golf packages.
Items can still be added, so call Jenny or Brad with any updates.
BANDSTAND DEDICATION: The dedication
for the newly renovated bandstand was held on Nov 19.
Judge Bill Hendry presented a very interesting history of the bandstand, donors
were
recognized, and the Okeechobee High School Jazz Band gave a wonderful performance.
Thanks to J D Mixon for putting the evening together and Pres Jim for the
remarks.
FARM-CITY WEEK BBQ: Our annual
Farm-City week BBQ on Nov 19, was another great event
with a delicious lunch, informative displays by the FFA and 4H members, and
speaker Pat Miller. Recognition plaques were presented to Pat Miller for his 25
years of service to the Extension Service and to Clayton Williams for his 12
years of chairing the Farm-City BBQ. Jeff Sumner has taken over the chairmanship
and did a fantastic job!
G4S CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Christmas
Party for G4S Halfway House (former EYDC) will be held on Tues, Dec 8. Our Club
will once again present the young men with a gift bag with toiletries and have
cakes and other "goodies". A spiritual program will be presented by Rev
Jim Dawson. If you would like to attend, meet at the Bank of America parking lot
at 6:30 PM on Dec 8.
SANTA-IN-THE-PARK: Head Santa Marcos
has set the dates for Santa in the park. Santa will be in his sleigh at the
bandstand on Dec 12, after the parade, and Dec 15-19 and 21-23. Plan to sign up
for a night to be an elf.
SALVATION ARMY KETTLE CAMPAIGN: The
Board agreed to participate in the Salvation Army Kettle campaign by manning the
kettle as Bell Ringers for one day at Walmart. Our day will be Wednesday,
Dec 9 from 9 AM to 8 PM. We had such a great response from the membership, that
we may add a second day.
DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING: Lt-Gov
Mike Farley's first Division Council Meeting will be held on Dec 12, at IRSC in
Ft Pierce. If you can attend, please let Pres Jim Vensel know so we can be
represented.
NEW MEMBER: Philip Buxton of Buxton
Funeral Home is our newest member. Philip is member Paul Buxton's son, so a
second-generation Kiwanian. Welcome Philip!
IN THE NEWS: Jerry O'Bannon
and Darrell Enfinger were pictured in the Okeechobee News on the Seacoast Bank
golf team for United Way, and Darrell also had picture for 35 year service
recognition with the County. Corey Dehays was featured in an Okeechobee News
article for her promotion to Senior Accountant with Wicks, Brown, Williams & Co
and for her profile in the Nov/Dec issue of Florida CPA Today. Kelly Owens
was re-elected chairperson of the School Board. Congratulations!
CONDOLENCES: Our sincere sympathy to
Steve Cates on the passing of his wife, Dee Dee. Out thoughts and prayers are
with you!
WORDS OF WISDOM: If you lend someone
$20 and never see that person again, it was probably a wise investment. Never
miss a good chance to shut up. If at first you don't succeed .....do it the
way your wife told you.
