DEFINING STATEMENT:
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
NEW ADDRESS: We now have a P O Box
for our address to assure we receive all correspondence. The new address is: P O
Box 2754 , zip 34973.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST. Our Easter
Pancake Breakfast on Apr 12, will be held at Cowboy's Restaurant this year. In
addition to this change, Chairman J D Mixson, has announced that door prizes
will be given out to those attending. J D has posters and tickets available and
please let him know if you have any door prize gifts to donate. We will also
have the "satellite" breakfast at the First United Methodist Church. Remember- Sell,
Sell,Sell those tickets!
BEARS AND HATS: We are collecting
stuffed bears and hats for children who are in stressful situations or suffering
from cancer. This is Gov David Liddell's project in memory of his wife who died
suddenly just before he was installed as Governor of the Florida District of
Kiwanis. Please bring any new or clean used stuffed animals to the meeting. They
will be presented to the Sheriffs Office and Police Department on Apr 23.
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL: The board
voted to again donate $1,000 to the RIF program to help provided books for
the children in all the elementary schools. Each child gets to choose a book to
keep as their own.
DAY OF PRAYER: The club will provide a lunch for the Day of Prayer on May 7, sponsored by the
Okeechobee Ministerial Association. The location will be in front of the new Courthouse.
This will be our meeting, so we will not meet at the American Legion on
this day.
RADIO AUCTION: The annual Radio
Auction that was cancelled last year is once again in the planning stages. Brad
Stark has agreed to co-chair with Jim Vensel. The date will be the second Sat in
Dec (Dec 12). Begin to think of those businesses you can contact to obtain
donations. Remember that we need items with at least a $25.00 retail value.
NEW MEMBERS: Dawn Smith with Regions
Bank and Mary Chesley with the Hampton Inn have been approved by the Board for
membership. Welcome!
RECOVERING: Bruce Simpson continues
to
recover nicely from his latest knee replacement surgery. Kathryn Montes De Oca's (Marcos' daughter) heart surgery on Mar 10,
went very well and she is home. Wyatt Thomas (Lisa Thomas husband)
continues to recover from cancer. Our prayers and sincere best wishes for a
complete recovery!
